What it does
Every Cross-Border Shipment, in One Database
ShipScout consolidates customs declarations from 68 national customs authorities, including the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the European Union's Eurostat (Comext), Mexico's Servicio de Administración Tributaria, Brazil's Receita Federal, Vietnam's General Department of Customs, Indonesia's BPS, Türkiye's TÜİK, the UAE's Federal Customs Authority, and dozens more. India trade flows are delivered via licensed mirror sources : counterparty filings from partner jurisdictions. The result: 11.3 billion+ shipment records spanning every major trade corridor on earth.
For markets where bill-of-lading data isn't publicly released, we use mirror reconciliation, deriving exporter-importer flows from the partner country's import filings. For closed regimes like North Korea, Iran, or Cuba, we surface statistical aggregates from UN COMTRADE and ITC Trade Map. The platform clearly labels each record's tier so you always know what you're looking at.
Tier 2: Detailed
Full bill of lading: shipper, consignee, vessel, container, HS code, weight, value, port pair. Available for USA, India, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, plus 25+ more.
Tier 3: Mirror
Derived from partner-country filings. Covers China exports (via importing country data), Russia trade (via 30+ partners), Türkiye, Vietnam, and most of Africa.
Tier 1: Statistical
Aggregated monthly totals by HS chapter and trading partner. Sourced from UN COMTRADE and national stats agencies. Covers 100% of UN member states.

How it works
From 68 National Customs Feeds to a Single Search Bar
1. Ingest & Normalize
Customs feeds arrive in very different formats. CBP releases ASCII PIERS files, Eurostat publishes Comext SDMX endpoints, India trade data flows in via licensed mirror sources, Mexican SAT publishes XML pedimentos. Our pipeline normalizes all 68 feeds into a single canonical schema: shipment_id, direction, hs_code, shipper, consignee, port_load, port_discharge, value_usd, weight_kg, quantity, vessel, container, filing_date.
2. Enrich & Resolve
Raw consignee strings ("ACME TRDG CO LTD") are resolved against our 20.9M company graph, which handles typos, transliteration (Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese) and fuzzy address matching. Each shipment links to the canonical company entity so all of a buyer's purchases roll up correctly regardless of how their name was spelled at filing.
3. Search Across the Globe
Type "lithium-ion battery exporters from China to Germany". The platform parses that into HS chapters 8506/8507, source country = CN, destination = DE, then queries both the German Eurostat import feed and the partner-mirror China dataset, deduplicates, ranks by 12-month volume, and shows you the top 200 Chinese cell manufacturers with their German offtake partners.
Real-World Example: Sourcing Alternative Cobalt Suppliers Outside DRC
An EV battery startup in Pune needed to diversify away from Democratic Republic of Congo cobalt amid ESG concerns. They searched HS 2605.00 (cobalt ores) globally, filtered out DRC, and within minutes had a ranked list of alternative origin countries: Indonesia (32%), Philippines (18%), Australia (15%), Cuba (8%), Madagascar (6%). Indonesia alone had 12 active cobalt exporters shipping to Korean and Japanese refiners, with names, ports (Sorong, Pomalaa) and 12-month volumes. Total research time: 22 minutes.
